KATY TRAIL STATE PARK

SEDALIA

Sedalia is currently the western-most trailhead for the Katy Trail. A 33-mile section is nearing completion that will connect the Griessen Road Trailhead to Sedalia, pass the State Fairgrounds and continue on to Clinton. This soon-to-be-completed section may also have a test section for horseback riding.

From Sedalia to Boonville, the Katy passes through prairie and gradual, rolling hills, until it meets up with the Missouri River valley in Boonville. This is the most solitary stretch of trail and there is a slight grade from Sedalia heading east. (I didn't notice it, but a friend really noticed it when towing two kids in a Burley cart.)

CONTACT INFO: Call the Department of Natural Resources for more information at 1 (800) 334-6946.
DISTANCE: 185 miles (one-way).
TRAILHEAD: Griessen Road. From the only "real" intersection in Sedalia (Hwy 50/65), take Hwy 50 east 11 blocks to Engineer. Turn north, then cross the railroad tracks, pass the cemetery, turn right and go about two miles to the trailhead on the right.
RATING: Flat and easy.
