Basic Maintenance Clinic

Overview & Purpose

Enrich your knowledge of bicycle maintenance with South Side Cyclery. Join us on the last Tuesday of each month.

Education Standards

  1. Learn Bike Terminology

  2. ABC’s Air, Brakes, Chain.

  3. Basic Shifting and Brake Adjustments

  4. How to care for and clean your bike. 

Objectives

  1. Build your vocabulary in bicycle specific terminology. 

  2. Fully understand the ABC’s and why they are important.

  3. Be able to do minor gear and brake adjustments at home or in the field.

  4. Know how to properly and safely clean your bike, and what to watch out for.


Flat Fix Clinic

Tuesday, Dec 5th 6:00 P.M - 8:00 P.M

Overview & Purpose

Interactive clinic educating and teaching people about tires and tubes. Explain the anatomy of a bicycle tire/tube and tubeless systems. How they work, what they work with, and how to overcome small issues out in the field and at home.

Objectives

  1. Teach and explain the different types of tires/tubes, tubeless systems and the wheel interface. Show real life examples (hands on show and tell)

  2. Begin with the removal of the wheel (front and rear). Explain quick releases and through axles and how they work. Releasing the brakes if necessary or disc brakes.

  3. The tube changing process. Replace the tube? Patch the tube? Tubeless plug.

  4. Re installation of the wheel. Tightening of the quick release or through axle. Reconnecting the brakes/ making sure the brakes are not rubbing and functioning properly.

  5. Final safety check on the bike before continuing riding.
