Meet Our South Side Cyclery Team
TIM AKA TK (Big Chief)
TK has been working in the Bicycle Industry for 30+ years in various capacities on both the retail and corporate sides of the business. He has successfully managed several bicycle shops in the area and is respected for his knowledge and integrity in the cycling community. He has had a passion for cycling since he was twelve; when he started racing BMX. Before long he became a Pro, ranking 2nd in the nation. After his BMX days he took up mountain bike, road and cyclocross racing successfully at Expert and Cat 2 levels. He LOVES to talk about all things bikes and help people fall in love with the sport. He has helped several other cyclists get to professional levels, but also very much enjoys helping beginners to learn to ride.
DEANNA AKA MRS. K (Wonder Woman)
Deanna has been active her entire life and has a never-give-up approach to life. Dance led her to become an aerobics instructor then a personal trainer while in college. After college she had a career in retail management, followed by a career in finance after the birth of her first child. She helped her husband in the bicycle business managing and consulting with different local shops. She led many women’s rides and even did a little road racing herself, helping up and coming cyclists get to the next level. She has overcome a debilitating chronic illness and came back even stronger, leaving fiance to become a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, helping others overcome health issues. She launched XO Health Coaching partnering with ChiroWholeness. She has found cycling to be an important part of mental, emotional and physical health and thoroughly enjoys encouraging others to be active through cycling. She is also a NICA Coach for the South City MTB Team where she loves helping kids build confidence through mountain biking.
DON (South Side Legend)
Don "The Legend" Lennox is an institution--he's been the head mechanic at South Side Cyclery for more than thirty(!) years, and what he doesn't know about bikes isn't worth knowing. Don is a renaissance man: outside of working full-time for SSC, he flies RC helicopters, follows ham radio, pursues an interest in organic gardening and sustainable living, and runs a lawn care business on the side! We're not sure when he sleeps--we're not one hundred percent sure he does.
JEAN (Bicycle Matchmaker)
Jean has a HAES (health at every size) philosophy of biking, and also life. She believes that everyone deserves to pursue joyful movement and to feel at home in their bodies, and bikes are one fun way to get there. She also loves biking for transportation and bikepacking--ask her about the time she biked to New Orleans sometime. Her goal is to make biking welcoming and accessible to everyone, especially folks who have been traditionally underserved and underrepresented by the bike industry. Her favorite part of the job is connecting someone with a bike that's perfect for them.
As a family owned business every member of this family helps out in one way or another. Although you may not see them at the shop on a regular basis they are each contributing to help provide each of our customers with a positive experience.
HANNA (Fashionista...Marketing/ Merchandising Intern)
Hanna is a junior at MIZZOU studying Fashion Marketing and Merchandising. Hanna is no stranger to what it takes to ride a bike and look good doing it while being the reigning champ at the Gateway Kids Races for several consecutive years. We are excited to have her help make our cycling experience fashionable while helping ensure we offer quality apparel and accessories for our customers.
TYSON (Jack of all Trades)
Tyson is a sophomore at Fontbonne University and pitcher for the Griffins Baseball Team studying Exercise Science. Just like Hanna, Tyson was known for winning several consecutive Gateway Cup Kids Races. He also competed in MTB races and Cyclocross, but since he was born he was throwing a baseball and that has been his primary focus. He has always been good at fixing things and has experience helping “TK” build and fix bikes and cars his entire childhood. He has taken an interest in learning the business side of the bike shop and will be doing many background projects.
ELI (The Wheelie King)
Eli is our youngest, is a freshman in high school and will be starting his first “real” job as one of our bike builders. Like his older siblings he grew up on two wheels and kept up with the tradition of winning at the Gateway Cup Kids Races! This year he joined the South City Composite MTB Team in new Missouri Interscholastic Cycling League. He has grown in his mountain biking abilities while taking on all of the more difficult trails in the region. One of his favorite things is doing wheelies on the bike and getting air time.
LEE (The Tech Guy)
Lee is a sophomore at Fontbonne University majoring Computer Science and pin hitter for the Griffins Men's Volleyball Team. While Lee is new into the bicycle business and has not competed in any local bicycle events. Lee however always been interested in computers and how they work and has had many learning opportunities to explore his field. His biggest project with South Side Cyclery was helping develop and create this website!
